It’s hard to believe I’ve been back from Guatemala for a week. Time flies! Before I go into our trip I wanted to give a little background on missions in my life. As a little girl I loved being a “G.A.”, Girls in Action at First Baptist Church. We learned about missionaries and their lives abroad. I remember always thinking how cool it was to live in another country/ culture. I can see now how God was working on my heart in those early years. After graduating from college I was able to do some mission work for the entire summer. Since then I just gravitate towards missions, countries…the lost. Just typing this I am tearing up…thankful for what God has done in my life and most of all being my Savior and giving me a glimpse of what he sees. The mission trip to Guatemala was being led by some friends of mine from church. I really didn’t know at the time when I signed up for the trip how in the world I was gonna pay for it? I did know however that I was supposed to go. For some time I felt in my heart the need to serve again. One day my husband and I were talking about raising the money and he suggested me selling small paintings to fund my trip. Immediately my mind was working, thinking, creating and EXCITED! I knew God had given Brad this idea…it was perfect. So I posted the paintings on my blog and well most of you know the rest. Almost all the paintings sold (look on the paintings for guatemala tab to see the work) and it led to many other painting opportunities that have literally fallen into my lap (or maybe God threw them from above;)). I can see how God is using the talent he has given me for his glory. He is providing a way for me to be used, I simply just had to be willing. The reason I write all this to you is to encourage you. I am so seriously flawed it ain’t even funny! But as flawed as I am God still wants to use me, to draw me closer to him, to mold me and make me into something beautiful in his eyes. He wants to do the same thing in you, that’s right YOU:) Listen to that nudging in your heart, he’ll take you there and hold your hand every step of the way…just take the step in faith. He will do the rest.

Our part in Guatemala was to help the local church with VBS. We brought crafts for all the kids, all 800! The local church led their own VBS (complete with the Cedarmont Kids CD in spanish) and we helped with the kids and crafts. The kids were precious.20111118-095531.jpg

This little family grabbed our hearts. Abram, Diego and Anna. We found out that their mom died and father was not in their lives so they lived with their grandmother. We loved on them a little extra by getting new shoes and taking a care bag to the grandmother. Abram also had a bad infection in, on and around his ear. They said it was from a mosquito bite months ago. We laid hands on him and asked God for healing. In one picture you can see one of the little girls from our team putting HER shoes on Abram. She gave him her shoes, a moment that will impact her forever.
